A classic sweet, soft banana bread topped with rich and tangy cream cheese frosting. It’s made with just a handful of healthy ingredients and gluten free. This vegan banana bread with cream cheese frosting is totally banana sweetened!
HI FRIENDS! How are ya?! Life has been pretty busy lately getting ready for the school year – so much to do, but it’s all super exciting. Last night our school had orientation night, where the parents come and the teachers give quick presentations with important school info, and we get to meet some of the kids if they come! Doing that kinda made it really sink in that I’m going to have a new class once again and I’m really, really excited for it. It’s always a challenge, but always fun. Know what else is fun? Eating copious amounts of banana bread.
First of all, can we talk about how freaking delicious banana bread is? Literally any and all banana bread, so long as it’s vegan, should be appreciated/worshipped/shoved into my mouth at a rapid pace. Honestly though, who can make a loaf of banana bread last longer than 1-2 days in their house? If you’re raising your hand, I don’t know that we’d get along.
Kidding, I love you, and I’d finish the loaf for you.
Guys, this is one of those days where the food looks weird and ugly but holy shit it tastes so good that I couldn’t not post it. It’s no secret that I love banana bread, so this one was almost guaranteed to be a new favorite.
I am IN LOVE.
This vegan banana bread with cream cheese frosting is a recipe you’ll want to hold onto. This is my favorite base banana bread recipe, and slathering on sweet, slightly tangy cream cheese frosting is just the icing on the cake. Bread. Whatever, just let me eat it.
I’ve also made a lot of banana breads with oat flour, like this berry-licious gem, and those are lovely, too. Just depends what you’re going for! I’m just in love with banana flour, so that’s what I always go for first. The ones based on oats are a little more dense and chewy, while banana flour is soft and almost gooey. SO good.
The ingredients for the banana bread are super simple, per usual. There’s literally only four! So if you’re feeling lazy and don’t want to clean your food processor after making the frosting, you only need these 4 things for a bomb loaf of sweet comfort. Loaf is such a gross word.
You’ll need some banana flour, super ripe mashed bananas, flax eggs, and almond milk. You’ll need 2 full cups of super ripe, sweet bananas, because that’s the only thing sweetening our bread. Plus, if I’m eating BANANA bread, it better damn well taste like I’m face planting into a freaking banana tree.
Bake that baby for an hour until it’s nice and golden on top, and the middle doesn’t feel too gooey. It’ll need to cool completely, so it’s time to make your frosting while you wait!
The frosting is similar to the mix I use to make cheesecakes – soaked cashews for insane creamy texture, dates for sweetness, a bit of vanilla for flavor, and some apple cider vinegar. This is what’s giving us that quintessential cream cheese tang! Smells weird, but combined with the other ingredients it’s pretty insane. So luscious and creamy and fantastic paired with a warm slice of the banana bread, if I do say so myself. And I do.
This vegan banana bread with cream cheese frosting is such a classic, and I know I’m going to make it over and over. The banana bread is so soft and sweet, while the frosting is creamy with just the right amount of tang. Fall is quickly sneaking up on us, and soon it’ll be time for cozy sweaters, pretty leaves, and chilly mornings that start with a warm slice of banana bread with alllllll the frosting on top. I for one, cannot wait for those days. 🙂
Have a happy, healthy day!
