Vegan 2 Minute Chocolate Banana Mug Cake

A super chocolatey, super healthy mug cake made in your microwave with minimal ingredients and done in just two minutes! Gluten free and naturally sweetened vegan 2 minute chocolate banana mug cake.

Today is our Dr. Seuss celebration in Kindergarten! I’m just a little excited – who didn’t love Dr. Seuss books growing up?! Obviously my favorite is the Grinch – yesterday we celebrated his official birthday with Cat in the Hat activities, and today I’m making “green eggs and ham” (AKA green vanilla pudding with a vanilla wafer on top to look like an egg yolk). The kids are going to freak and I can’t wait. Any out of the ordinary, super fun activity is bound to get my little nuggets super wound up, so I’ll probably be a little exhausted by the end…may just have to whip up one of these mug cakes when I get home.

This vegan 2 minute chocolate banana mug cake tastes rich, decadent, moist and super chocolatey, and on top of all that goodness, it’s made with all healthy ingredients. And there’s only FOUR that are required! Chickpea flour, a small ripe banana for a little sweetness, cocoa powder, and a little bit of almond milk.

Combine the dry ingredients first, then add the mashed banana and milk and stir until it looks like legit cake batter. Then do an evil laugh and relish the fact that you’re having chocolate cake that’s GOOD for you. Not that I’ve ever done that! Moving on.

Once your ingredients are combined in a microwave-safe mug/ramekin, zap it for about 2 minutes! I like mine a little gooey (almost runny) in the center, like a lava cake, so if yours comes out like this and you want it a little more firm, feel free to microwave a little longer! Just know that when chickpea flour gets baked longer, it tends to get slightly chewy. But if you stay on the side of slightly shorter cook time, this vegan 2 minute chocolate banana mug cake will be your new favorite dessert.

As I’ve mentioned before, chocolate cake is my FAVORITE dessert. Always and forever, the end. And this mug cake is a regular in my sweet tooth, dessert loving home, for good reason. It’s moist, rich, and perfectly sweetened from the banana. I love baking up extravagant, healthy creations, but then there are times where I need some chocolate cake and I’d like it in two minutes or less. This vegan 2 minute chocolate banana mug cake is for those times.

Vegan 2 Minute Chocolate Banana Mug Cake

Total Time: 7 minutes

Yield: 1 mug cake


  • 1/4 cup chickpea flour
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 small ripe banana
  • 2-3 tablespoons almond milk
  • Optional: stevia to taste


  1. Mix the chickpea flour, cocoa powder, and mashed banana thoroughly in a microwave-safe mug/ramekin.
  2. Stir in the almond milk until all the ingredients are combined.
  3. Microwave for about 2 minutes, until the cake reaches your desired consistency.
