Rich, peanut buttery nice cream swirled with chocolate. This vegan buckeye shake is so creamy and refreshing, you’d never know it’s just 4 healthy ingredients, gluten free and totally fruit sweetened!
We’re officially one week away from buckeye football, guys!!!! I’m a little bit excited. And by that, I mean I’ve been counting down the days for over seven weeks.
Now that I’m no longer on campus, supporting my buckeyes is a way for me to still hold onto those wonderful memories. I wear my scarlet and gray every fall weekend, and Joe and I never miss a game. Although I have to say, I’m definitely not a TV screamer, that type of fan annoys me. Like, I wish the refs could hear you and your logical argument from sitting way back and watching the game on TV, but alas, they can’t.
Anyway, let’s talk about this vegan buckeye shake! The best way to enjoy the first few games of the season when it still feels like summer.
Ingredients for a vegan buckeye shake
- Banana: you’ll need 2 super ripe, frozen bananas, which give the shake a super creamy texture and sweetness.
- Peanut butter: oil-free, unsweetened peanut butter gives the shake amazing peanut buttery flavor and rich, creamy texture.
- Nondairy milk: just a bit of nondairy milk helps the shake blend together. I use unsweetened almond milk for neutral flavor, but any nondairy milk should work.
- Vegan chocolate chips: this is optional, but melting some to drizzle on the glass or just sprinkling a few on top makes it even more fun.
Tips for making a vegan buckeye shake
- Freeze your bananas when they’re super ripe. Bananas provide the most sweetness when they’re very ripe and spotty, so wait to freeze until they’re at that point.
- Add as little liquid as possible to start. You can always add more milk little by little to help your blender get things going, but for a super thick, rich shake, using as little liquid as possible is best.
This vegan buckeye shake is the perfect blend of peanut butter and chocolate. At this point I think we can agree is a combination we ALL love. SO good.

I can’t say that I am a football fan, but supporting a team that also happens to be the name of a delicious dessert does make the whole thing much more appealing! So I’ll still come for the snacks 🙂 Or the shakes. Or both. There is no such thing as too many forms of PB + chocolate! And the chocolatey drizzles decorating the glass makes it all the more irresistible. I love how simple this is, only including the necessary and most delicious ingredients. Hope school is going well!
Haha couldn’t agree with you more on loving ALL things PB and chocolate! The chocolate drizzle was surprisingly easy, so I was glad I attempted it! School is great so far – thanks for the well wishes, Natalie! Hope you had a great week too 🙂
