We’re officially one week away from buckeye football, guys!!!! I’m a little bit excited. And by that, I mean I’ve been counting down the days for over seven weeks.

Football tends to be a divisive subject, especially amongst women. I’ve met plenty of girls that LOVE football during the fall, support their team loyally, and scream at the TV. Then there are those who sit on the couch scrolling through Instagram, while their football loving company has their moment.

I definitely fall into the first category. I went to THE Ohio State University, where football is, quite frankly, a big deal. Ohio State gave me the best college experience I could’ve asked for, and I couldn’t be a more proud alumni. It’s really where I found myself as a person (went vegan), met some of the best friends I’ve ever known, and of course, where I met the love of my life.

Now that I’m no longer on campus, supporting my buckeyes is a way for me to still hold onto those wonderful memories. I wear my scarlet and gray every fall weekend, and Joe and I never miss a game. Although I have to say, I’m definitely not a TV screamer, that type annoys me. Like, I wish the refs could hear you and your logical argument from sitting way back and watching the game on TV, but alas, they can’t.

I’m SO ready for the upcoming football season. Plus, this vegan buckeye shake is totally summer appropriate, and now that it’s winding down I say we make five a day to savor the last little bit of summer.  Oh and, the good news for all you football haters! You can like chocolate and peanut butter shakes without liking and/or watching football. 🙂

So the Ohio State mascot is a buckeye, which is the nut from a buckeye tree. I used to kind of resent that, because how freaking weird, like most schools are something cool like lions or some other majestic animal, and we’re a nut. Cool.

But then I found out that there are little treats made to look like buckeyes – peanut butter balls, dipped in chocolate. I then quickly accepted and cherished and celebrated that I was a buckeye, and ate as many as possible every fall – PS, that recipe is super easy to vegan-ize, and may have to happen on the blog soon, am I right?!

This vegan buckeye shake is the perfect blend of peanut butter and chocolate. At this point I think we can agree is a combination we ALL love. Simply blend some peanut butter nice cream – yes, you’ll still get a hint of banana flavor, but honestly the peanut butter is definitely the star here. Drizzle with some vegan melted chocolate if you’re feeling fancy! Or throw some chocolate chips on top and call it a shake.

SO GOOD. Almost as good as a buckeye game on a fall day. Alright, it’s better.

Vegan Buckeye Shake

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Total Time: 5 minutes

Yield: 1 shake


  • 2 frozen bananas
  • 2 tbsp natural, unsweetened peanut butter
  • 1/2-1 c almond milk
  • Vegan chocolate chips, melted if desired


  1. Blend the bananas, peanut butter, and almond milk until smooth and creamy.
  2. Pour into a glass and top with chocolate chips, or if you're a champ, melt the chocolate and drizzle over/swirl it into the shake!
