The staple of any plant based eater’s diet…banana ice cream, AKA vegan nice cream, AKA the best news you’ll get all day – you don’t have to miss out on ice cream treats to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Sweet, super ripe bananas blended up to make smooth, creamy, ice cream! Vegan, gluten free, and sweetened naturally.
So I know that for most of us right now it’s SO cold out that we can’t possibly fathom eating something as cold as ice cream…but because I eat nice cream daily I just have to share the goodness with those of you who aren’t in on this secret! So grab your heater and some slippers – that’s how I enjoy my nice cream in the winter 🙂
Growing up, my favorite ice cream was from Graeter’s – for those not familiar it’s an Ohio company that has incredibly good ice cream. My favorites were peanut butter chocolate chip (because um, peanut butter + chocolate), and black raspberry chip, which I’m pretty sure is their signature flavor. I have really good memories of going with my family and sitting outside in the summer eating that fabulous ice cream, but (fortunately) my eating habits have changed significantly since childhood. I’ll always love those memories with my family cause they’re the best, but now I have ice cream I can enjoy while maintaining my plant-based diet and health.
I don’t exactly remember the first time I experienced vegan nice cream, but I’m sure it was a mind blowing moment…and now I eat it daily! Blended up bananas take on the exact texture of creamy, dreamy ice cream. Literally just bananas and unsweetened almond milk is all you need! Blend it up and you’re ready for a delicious breakfast, snack, or dessert. And the options for toppings/flavor variations are endless! It was hard for me to keep this one plain (even though it’s DELISH), but I’m excited to share some of those nice cream variations in the future. For now though, we’re going with the straight up, classic, nice cream in it’s purest form. Make sure your bananas are spotty and ripe, break them up into pieces and freeze them for at least a day. Blend with a little bit of almond milk – I don’t ever really measure, because it really depends on your texture preference (less milk = chunkier, thicker ice cream, more milk = creamier, more runny texture).
Why sacrifice your health for a pint that’s overpriced and terrible for you?! Now you can have perfectly natural, wholesome ice cream any time of day and feel good about what you’re giving your body. So simple but oh so perfect.
