Vegan Chocolate Quinoa Breakfast Bowl

A creamy, dreamy, chocolatey way to start your day. Customize this easy, vegan chocolate quinoa breakfast bowl with whatever flavors/toppings you want, and you’ve got a super healthy breakfast to power you through your day! This bowl is gluten free and naturally sweetened.

Quinoa 1

If you haven’t heard about quinoa, it’s been having a moment for like, forever now it seems, but for good reason. It’s so, so good for you! Quinoa is a seed that is packed with protein, fiber, and other nutrients. I eat in both sweet and savory dishes – it’s really versatile because it has just a slightly nutty flavor and kind of takes on whatever it’s cooked with. (PS – if you can’t find/don’t want quinoa, swap it out for oats!! Still would make for an amazing bowl.)

Today, we’re having breakfast!! Best meal of the day. This vegan chocolate quinoa breakfast bowl is packed with protein and nutrients to get you through a long morning of work, and it’s so easy to adapt based on what you like! I went with chocolate, and don’t really feel the need to justify that decision. Isn’t chocolate always the way to go?!

Quinoa 2

I simply cook the quinoa in almond milk, then stirred in cocoa powder and my favorite Sunwarrior chocolate protein powder – the protein powder is only made with natural ingredients, GMO free and is vegan. It’s sweet and chocolatey and really grabs on to the quinoa, making for a wonderfully creamy texture. Use whatever protein powder you’ve got. I went with almond butter and some banana coins on top – can you think of a better combination?! This kept me full all morning long, and it was so easy – and if you’re short on time, you can cook the quinoa in the microwave or the night before!

Vegan Chocolate Quinoa Breakfast Bowl

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 20 minutes

Total Time: 30 minutes

Yield: 1 bowl


  • 1/3 cup dry quinoa
  • 2/3 cup almond milk
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1/2 scoop Sunwarrior chocolate protein powder (or any protein powder you like)
  • 2 tbsp almond/peanut butter
  • Banana to top


  1. Put the quinoa and almond milk in a saucepan on high. As soon as it starts to boil, turn it down to low heat and cover. Cook for about 15-20 minutes until most of the almond milk has been absorbed by the quinoa.
  2. Put the quinoa into a bowl and mix in cocoa powder and protein powder until combined. You may need to add a little bit more almond milk so it gets well incorporated.
  3. Top with peanut/almond butter and bananas.
