Say hello to vegan 3 ingredient chocolate cereal, my cutest, most fun, bite-sized recipe to date.
What was your favorite cereal as a child?! Mine was most definitely cocoa puffs. Reese’s puffs occasionally, because chocolate + peanut butter = duh, but cocoa puffs were definitely my go to. Never liked lucky charms (too sweet – cause cocoa puffs are so much more tame, HA), captain crunch didn’t do it for me, and apple jacks were boring. I guess I’ve just always been a chocolate lover.
I have no idea why, but cereal is such a “fun” memory to me. When I think back on cereals I had as a child, it’s always positive, heart-warming memories, of fun family times or the best conclusion to sleepovers. When reminiscing, I then move to cringing at the thought of the ingredient list on those store-bought cereals. Most of them are about a mile long, and arguably all of them have little to no nutritional value whatsoever.
As a result, friends, today is the day that we eat HEALTHY, VEGAN CEREAL. If you haven’t already realized, I’m a teeny tiny bit excited about this vegan 3 ingredient chocolate cereal.
Being that I run this vegan dessert blog, it’s not exactly a secret that I love to bake. I love everything about it, from brainstorming the ingredients and process of a recipe, down to pulling a successful final product out of the oven.
Since I bake often, it’s pretty big to say that this vegan 3 ingredient chocolate cereal is one of the most genuinely FUN recipes I’ve ever created. Tiny spheres of sweet, chocolatey, HEALTHY bliss. What more could we want upon waking up?!
I’m just going to get right to it, because honestly, I’ve been waiting over a MONTH to share this with you. I know I know, I’m the worst. But what matters is that we’re here today, right?!
The cereal is 3 ingredients: oats (ground into flour), cocoa powder, and dates (blended into paste). We simply grind our oats into flour and combine with the cocoa powder. Then, measure out some sweet, rich date paste, and stir it all together into a thick dough. Roll into spheres of about a teaspoon each, and pop into the oven to get crunchified! PS, I did NOT measure the dough to roll it out. I literally just pictured cocoa puffs and rolled them about that size. Takes about 25 minutes for this amount! Listen to a podcast, music, or watch half an episode of Fixer Upper.

The amount noted in the recipe makes about 2 servings. Therefore, if you want to have a lot on hand for multiple days of breakfast and snacking, I’d double or even triple the batch. Just put your patient pants on and get ready to roll!
I baked the vegan 3 ingredient chocolate cereal for about 30 minutes. However, the important part is when it comes out of the oven. Let the cereal sit out on the counter for at least 3 hours. This is when it gets really crunchy! So necessary when you think of traditional cereals – the texture is one of the best parts of the overall experience!
Once it’s nice and crunchy, store it in a tupperware. The only thing to be aware of is that it’ll soften slightly in a container, so you may have to let it sit out again if you want it REALLY crunchy. I loved it both super crunchy and out of the container, so it’s totally up to your preference.
I can’t get over this vegan 3 ingredient chocolate cereal. The whole experience of it seriousy catapaulted me back to childhood. Even the cereal milk tasted like what I remember having as a child when all the pieces were gone! A subtle hint of chocolate, perfect to wash everything down.
Another perk is how versatile this cereal is! Of course it can be eaten on it’s own with some almond milk, but it’s also great as a mix in for granola, and it would make a delicious topping for a frozen sweet treat.
This vegan 3 ingredient chocolate cereal is SO fun to make, and even more fun to eat. It’s perfectly chocolatey, sweet, and crunchy. Being able to enjoy a delicious, fun cereal WITHOUT all the horrible ingredients is so amazing, and even better that it’s chocolate!
