Vegan Chocolate Covered Bananas

Vegan chocolate covered bananas are a super simple but perfectly sweet summer snack! Made with just 3 ingredients.

Vegan Chocolate Covered Bananas

Hi friends!! I have the cutest, sweetest, most FUN summer treat for you today. I’ve seen people call these “monkey tails” and thought that was kinda cute, until I thought a little too deeply and started imagining eating a poor little monkey’s tail, which does NOT sound fun.

So, let’s stick with vegan chocolate covered bananas, shall we?

Vegan Chocolate Covered Bananas

To start, we need some ripe bananas! Important distinction here: often I talk about SUPER ripe bananas, like for banana bread, which are basically a day away from being questionable to consume. For these vegan chocolate covered bananas, we definitely want ripe bananas for optimal sweetness, but not mushy ones. So, they should definitely have some spots, but the peel should still be firm.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, if you eat green bananas, you need to reevaluate your whole life. Just kidding! Not really though. But that’s a conversation for another day, so let’s move on!

Vegan Chocolate Covered Bananas

Slice the bananas in half, and carefully put in a handle of your choice. I used our metal chopsticks cause that’s what I had at home, but little wooden popsicle sticks would be perfect, too. Or, you could ditch the handle altogether, it’s not totally necessary, it just makes dipping in toppings a bit easier!

Freeze the bananas for an hour. We’re freezing before dipping in chocolate so that they can stand up to the melted chocolate if it’s a bit warm.

Melt the chocolate in the microwave, and dip each banana. I always use a spoon, lay the banana in the bowl then use the spoon to help cover the banana completely in chocolate. As soon as the banana is covered, immediately dip it in or sprinkle with the toppings of your choice. This is the fun part! Go with whatever you like. I used unsweetened shredded coconut, mixed nuts, peanuts, and left one plain.

Refreeze the finished bananas for another hour, and they’re ready to go! These are SO fun and how perfect for a hot summer evening?! I love any desserts where you can easily mix up the flavors and textures you prefer, and these vegan chocolate covered bananas are perfect for that. The chewy and crunchy toppings, snap of the set chocolate shell, and sweet, ripe banana is such a dreamy combination.

Have a happy, healthy day!

Vegan Chocolate Covered Bananas

Prep Time: 2 hours

Total Time: 2 hours

Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 2 bananas
  • 1 c vegan chocolate chips - I use PASCHA 100% unsweetened chocolate chips, but any non-dairy chocolate should work!
  • *Note - you may have a bit of extra chocolate leftover, depending on how thick/thin you coat each banana. But I always go on the side of having too much chocolate, rather than not enough, or you won't be able to cover each banana!
  • Toppings of your choice: I used peanuts, coconut, and mixed nuts
  • Optional: chopsticks/skewers

Instructions

  1. Cut each banana in half, gently push the chopstick halfway through the bottom of each banana.
  2. Put a piece of parchment paper on a plate, place the bananas on top, and freeze for 1 hour.
  3. After an hour, melt the chocolate chips in a wide bowl. I do 30 seconds at a time in the microwave, stir, then another 30 seconds, and that usually melts them enough for me to stir everything into smooth melted chocolate.
  4. Carefully place each banana in the chocolate and use a spoon to make sure it's coated evenly, then roll or sprinkle with toppings of your choice.
  5. Freeze 1 more hour.
